American (Spanish-born) philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist. Known for famous sayings, such as "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" and "Only the dead have seen the end of war". Was a broad ranging cultural critic whose observations spanned many disciplines.
